About John

As a psychotherapist, it is my privilege to witness people and assist them on their way toward deeper emotional truth. My journey to doing this work was deeply influenced by the transformative power of therapy in my own life. Therapy wasn't just about overcoming obstacles; it was about understanding myself, embracing my complexities, and discovering my authentic self. This passion for personal growth fuels my desire to support others on their unique journeys.

I received a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University and a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from The University of Texas - Permian Basin. I come to this work as a career changer, having worked primarily in the arts as a performer and administrator at a variety of organizations throughout Houston, including Houston Grand Opera, Houston Ballet, Alley Theatre, and others. Having worked in a variety of settings and having lived a vibrant and eclectic life allows me to have a nuanced understanding of the human experience and meet people where they are at without judgment or agenda.

Outside of my private practice, I am also a Counseling Fellow at The Menninger Clinic. My clinical interests include psychodynamic theory, trauma, cult dynamics, men's issues, attachment, couples counseling, addiction, grief, and existential issues.

Beyond my clinical work, I enjoy attending live music and theatre events, spoiling my dog, Penny, and traveling to faraway places.
